Multiple measures taken to protect wetlands and build ecological harmony and beautiful scenery
In recent years, the biodiversity of the Taihu Lake Lake wetland has significantly increased, the air quality has significantly improved, and the water quality has been continuously improved. According to the statistical survey, the water area of the Taihu Lake Lake wetland reaches 71%, while the green coverage rate exceeds 24%. The park mainly uses low-carbon, environment-friendly and green travel modes such as electric cruise, hiking and cycling. It has more than 800 mu of green plants, which can absorb 10 to 20 thousand tons of carbon dioxide every year.

By implementing four measures to restore natural ecology, protect biodiversity of flora and fauna, improve water environment, and restore and inherit human ecology, a scientific ecological protection system has been constructed; Continue to investigate and monitor the dynamic changes in the water environment, wetland ecological characteristics, wetland vegetation succession, wetland conservation groups, and biodiversity of wetland parks, evaluate their habitat suitability changes and their consequences, develop targeted protection and restoration measures, and implement dynamic management.

Data shows that in recent years, wetland biodiversity has significantly increased, air quality has improved significantly, and water quality has continued to improve.

At present, the Taihu Lake Lake Wetland has two sets of full spectrum water quality monitors and multi-function online monitoring equipment for meteorological observation. In order to better monitor the wetland ecosystem and improve the wetland monitoring system, the Taihu Lake Lake Wetland has arranged an intelligent bird monitoring platform and set up two automatic bird observation points. These detection devices provide data support for wetland protection and are also a physical examination of wetland resources, laying a solid foundation for building a comprehensive monitoring and evaluation system for wetland ecology in the province.

  • In combination with historical data, 177 species of wild birds, 22 species of national second-class protected birds and 64 species of provincial protected birds have been monitored in the Taihu Lake Lake Wetland, and the World Conservation Union (IUCN) has listed one species of endangered species in the world: black faced spoonbill, one species of vulnerable species in the world: field bunting, and three species of near threatened species in the world: crested eared pheasant, ribbed duck, and small taiping bird. The total number of birds has increased by nearly 100 compared with the early days of the park.
  • The water area of the Taihu Lake Lake wetland accounts for 71%. Through the restoration and repair of natural revetments, the construction of ecological floating islands, the regular third-party water body assessment, and the 24-hour automatic water quality detection system in the park, the water quality in most areas has been upgraded from Class V to Class III water standards. The the Taihu Lake Lake wetlands cover four major categories and eight sub categories of wetland types, establish and improve the "animal plant microorganism water soil" virtuous cycle system, and further improve the quality of wetland water ecosystem.
  • There are 91 families, 183 genera and 240 species of vascular plants in the Taihu Lake Lake Wetland, including 66 families, 129 genera and 170 species of dicotyledons, 15 families, 41 genera and 55 species of monocotyledons, 6 families, 9 genera and 11 species of gymnosperms, and 4 families and 4 species of pteridophytes. Among them, the national first-class protected plants include Metasequoia and Ginkgo, both of which are cultivated species. The national second-class protected plants include Camphor (cultivated species), Wild Water Chestnut, Lotus (cultivated species), and Goose Palm Tree.
  • The the Taihu Lake Lake wetland has a wide water area, where water plants and fish can be seen everywhere, and the water quality is clear. Up to now, there are 97 kinds of underwater phytoplankton and 98 kinds of fish, which together constitute the underwater forest system of the Taihu Lake Lake wetland. A complete set of underwater ecological chain can absorb and decompose nutrients in water, and this system has realized the self purification function of the Taihu Lake Lake wetland.
The popularization and education of nature by the whole nation will not stop

Relying on the unique historical culture, folk customs, natural resources, etc., the Taihu Lake Lake Wetland has deeply excavated the Taihu Lake Lake historical culture, popularized wetland scientific knowledge, publicized wetland function value, and promoted wetland culture, which has become a typical demonstration of wetland restoration in the Taihu Lake Lake basin.

In 2012, the first "Wetland Natural School" in Suzhou was established, fully utilizing characteristic resources and science popularization bases. Every year, it carries out rich and colorful ecological protection study tours for the public, parent-child families, and student groups. After 10 years of development, it gradually established a wetland natural school development system of "industry guidance+enterprise operation+volunteer assistance", and created the "Suzhou model" of wetland natural schools.

At present, the Taihu Lake Lake Wetland has set up the research project of the Taihu Lake Lake Science Camp. The project relies on the production, teaching and research platform of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Taihu Lake Lake ecological, natural and human resources, including the youth social practice base, the Taihu Lake Lake Wetland Nature School, silkworm culture and education base and other diverse characteristics.

In the future, we will continue to focus on the three aspects of "protection, management, and operation". Based on winning dozens of honors such as "National Wetland Park", "National 4A Tourist Attraction", "National Ecotourism Demonstration Zone", and "National May Fourth Red Flag Youth League Branch", we will make efforts in science popularization education and ecological civilization education, step into the ranks of "National Science Popularization Education Base" and "National Ecological Civilization Education Base", and achieve a "win-win" situation for wetland protection and utilization.
